What English level should I start at?
CEFR letters are easier when they sound like your week, not like a certificate. This page is a self-check: pick the floor that matches how you actually speak, then start there.
Nothing here is scored. In the app, claiming a floor above A0 means sitting that tier’s placement exam. You can also start at A0 and climb.
How to read the floors
A0 is below official A1 so complete beginners are not dropped into survival texts. A1–A2 are first conversations. B1 is when you can handle most everyday and some work talk, still with effort. B2–C1 are fluency and range.
If you understand a lot and freeze on the reply, do not automatically pick C1. Production is the skill that decides the floor, not how many films you have watched.
English, German, Spanish, or French
The floors work the same on every MyAnya path. This page’s examples are English because that is the most common starting language here. In onboarding you can still pick Spanish, German, or French.

You cannot yet introduce yourself reliably. Short modules. No shame in starting here.
A1
A1 — elementary
Simple greetings and very short exchanges. You still need slow, clear speech.
A2
A2 — everyday basics
Café, directions, family, simple past. You can survive a short chat if the other person helps.
B1
B1 — independent
Work updates, interviews, opinions with effort. You follow most everyday talk and still search for words.
B2
B2 — confident
You argue a point, tell a story, handle most work English, with remaining gaps under pressure.
C1
C1 — advanced
Nuance, longer turns, professional language. Still a path, not native-mastery theatre.
Why the app still asks you to sit an exam
Self-check is a starting guess. The placement exam is the gate so you are not dropped into texts you cannot yet produce. It costs no energy. If you fail, you can try again after a cooldown, or start lower.
How MyAnya uses the floor you pick
You choose a study language and a CEFR floor in onboarding. A0 starts the path immediately. Any higher floor asks you to pass the exam for the level below it. Lessons stay authored British English (or Spanish, German, French if that is your path).

FAQ
+Is this an official CEFR test?
No. It is a self-check plus MyAnya’s in-app placement exam. Official certificates (IELTS, Goethe, etc.) are separate.
+What if I pick too high?
The placement exam will not let you skip a floor you cannot yet produce. You can start lower instead.
+Can I change later?
You climb by finishing modules and passing the tier exam. Starting honest is faster than restarting after a freeze.
