Walk into the practice able to name symptoms, duration, and what you need next.
Anya wakes up with a sore throat and a fever, so she books a visit at a doctor's practice. At the desk and in the consulting room, she is a stranger, so everyone uses Sie. The doctor needs three things from you: what hurts, since when, and what you have already tried. A short, clear sentence such as ‘Ich habe seit gestern starke Halsschmerzen.’ does all of that at once. Seit plus a time expression is the key to duration in German.
MomentYou arrive and name your throat problem.
Say thisIch habe seit gestern starke Halsschmerzen.
WhySeit plus a point in time tells how long the symptom has lasted; starke intensifies Halsschmerzen.
MomentYou say your back hurts.
Say thisMir tut der Rücken weh.
WhyMir tut … weh puts the aching body part as the subject, with mir for the person.
MomentYou list two symptoms.
Say thisIch habe Fieber und Husten.
WhyHaben plus the noun names a symptom; und joins two.
MomentThe doctor asks how long.
Say thisDie Schmerzen sind seit drei Tagen da.
WhySeit drei Tagen gives the duration; sind da means they are still present.
MomentYou explain a painkiller did not help.
Say thisIch nehme schon Ibuprofen, aber es hilft nicht.
WhySchon shows what you already tried; aber contrasts it with the result.
MomentYou ask for a prescription.
Say thisKönnten Sie mir bitte ein Rezept ausstellen?
WhyKönnten Sie is polite Sie-form; ein Rezept ausstellen asks for a prescription.

Body parts follow a pattern. For pain, say ‘Mir tut der Rücken weh’ or ‘Ich habe Kopfschmerzen’. Both are natural at A2. With a doctor, address them as Sie: ‘Könnten Sie mir bitte ein Rezept ausstellen?’ Könnten is the polite subjunctive and makes a request sound respectful, not demanding.
When the doctor asks ‘Seit wann haben Sie das?’, answer with seit: ‘Seit drei Tagen.’ If you already took something, add it with schon and aber: ‘Ich nehme schon Ibuprofen, aber es hilft nicht.’ This tells the doctor what to skip. End the visit by asking about the Rezept, the paper you take to the Apotheke. The six choices below rehearse the whole visit.
Name the symptom, give the duration, say what you tried, and ask for a prescription. Learn six lines and practise the visit.
