Phone the practice, get a slot that suits you and know what to bring.
Iryna has moved to Hannover and needs a family doctor (Hausarzt) for a routine check-up. She calls the practice at 8 a.m., when the phones open. The receptionist (Medizinische Fachangestellte) wants four things quickly: your name, whether you are a new patient, the reason and how urgent it is. This page is about booking only — describing symptoms in detail is a separate topic.
MomentYou give your name and request.
SayGuten Tag, mein Name ist Iryna Bondar. Ich hätte gern einen Termin bei Dr. Weber.
WhyIch hätte gern + Akkusativ: the polite request form; bei + Dativ for the doctor.
MomentYou say you are new.
SayIch bin neue Patientin. Sie hat mir meine Freundin empfohlen.
Whyneue Patientin/neuer Patient: practices often ask this first.
MomentYou give the reason and urgency.
SayEs geht um eine Kontrolle, es ist nicht dringend.
WhyEs geht um …: a short reason without details; nicht dringend sets priority.
MomentYou ask for a time.
SayHaben Sie diese Woche noch etwas frei, am liebsten vormittags?
Whyam liebsten = ideally; vormittags = in the mornings.
MomentYou confirm a slot.
SayDonnerstag um halb neun passt mir gut.
Whypasst mir: Dativ — the time suits me.
MomentYou ask what to bring.
SayWas muss ich mitbringen? Reicht meine Versichertenkarte?
Whymitbringen is separable; die Versichertenkarte is your health insurance card.

Ich hätte gern … is the polite Konjunktiv II for requests. Time expressions: um halb neun (8:30), am Donnerstag, vormittags/nachmittags. Dativ after passen: Das passt mir. Separable verbs: mitbringen → Was bringe ich mit? / Was muss ich mitbringen?
Call early — practices are busiest at 8–9 a.m. Many cities also use online booking (e.g. Doctolib). If it is urgent, say Es ist dringend. For emergencies at night call 116 117, not the practice.
