Leave a short, clear voicemail that actually gets you a call back.
Natalia works in purchasing at a logistics firm in Nuremberg. She calls a supplier about a quote, but only reaches the Mailbox (Anrufbeantworter). A voicemail has no second chance: the listener cannot ask questions. Say your name and company, the reason, one concrete question, ask for a callback, repeat your number slowly and say when you are available.
MomentYou say who you are.
SayGuten Tag, hier spricht Natalia Petrenko von der Firma Lindner Logistik.
Whyhier spricht … on the phone; von der Firma + Dativ for the company.
MomentYou give the reason.
SayIch rufe wegen Ihres Angebots vom 3. März an.
Whywegen + Genitiv: wegen Ihres Angebots; anrufen splits: ich rufe … an.
MomentYou name your question.
SayIch hätte noch eine Frage zum Liefertermin.
WhyIch hätte eine Frage zu + Dativ: polite and specific.
MomentYou ask for a callback.
SayKönnten Sie mich bitte zurückrufen? Meine Nummer ist 0171 2345 678.
Whyzurückrufen is separable; in a question with könnten it stays together.
MomentYou repeat the number.
SayIch wiederhole: null-eins-sieben-eins, zwei-drei-vier-fünf, sechs-sieben-acht.
WhyRepeat digits in pairs or groups — slower than you think.
MomentYou say when to reach you.
SaySie erreichen mich heute bis 17 Uhr. Vielen Dank und auf Wiederhören.
Whyjemanden erreichen = to reach someone; auf Wiederhören is the phone goodbye.

Plan your message in four keywords before you dial: Name – Grund – Bitte – Nummer. Keep it under 30 seconds. Say numbers digit by digit and use zwo instead of zwei if the line is bad.
