Ask for flexible hours, offer something in return, and agree a trial period.
Svitlana works full-time at a software company in Stuttgart. Her son starts school, and on Mondays she cannot be in before ten. She asks her team lead for a meeting about her hours. A good schedule talk opens the topic, makes a concrete request, offers a trade-off, clarifies overtime, and ends with a trial proposal. Konjunktiv II (würde, wäre, könnte) keeps it polite and negotiable.

Konjunktiv II softens requests: ‘Ich würde gern …’, ‘Wäre es möglich, dass …’ (verb at the end of the dass-clause), ‘Dafür könnte ich …’. Days with -s mean ‘every’: montags, freitags. ‘Reduzieren auf + Akkusativ’ gives the new number; ‘ab + Dativ’ gives the start date.
Come with a concrete proposal and something to offer back (dafür = in return). In Germany, employees in larger firms may have a legal right to reduce hours (Teilzeit), but phrasing it as a request still works best. Ask for the agreement in writing afterwards.
